McWilliam’s
South Australia, Australia
Founded in 1877 by Irish immigrant Samuel McWilliam, who planted his first vines at Sunnyside Vineyard near Corowa, McWilliam’s has grown into an iconic family winery rooted in quality and tradition. Guided by the philosophy of “quality of fruit first,” the family expanded into the Riverina (Hanwood Estate, 1917), then Hunter Valley’s Mount Pleasant (acquired 1941), and later into Coonawarra, Yarra Valley, Hilltops, Tumbarumba, Margaret River, and Canberra District.
They introduced Australia’s first varietal table wines in the 1960s and launched the prestigious Maurice O’Shea Award in 1990, reflecting their pioneering and leadership role in the industry. With six generations of winemaking, a landmark barrel‑shaped cellar door (1973), and a recent rebirth under Calabria Family Wines following the 2021 acquisition, McWilliam’s remains a dynamic force — celebrated for both accessible everyday wines and premium, award‑winning expressions across diverse Australian terroirs.
