Simonsig Family Vineyards is a cornerstone of the Stellenbosch wine region and a pioneering force in the modern South Africa wine industry. Founded in 1971 by Frans Malan, the estate is built on a foundation of Cape hospitality, family values, and a commitment to quality winemaking.

Frans Malan played a defining role in shaping South African wine, producing the first bottle of Kaapse Vonkel—South Africa’s first Méthode Cap Classique made in the traditional bottle-fermented method. He also co-founded the Stellenbosch Wine Route, establishing a model for wine tourism that endures today.

Now led by the second and third generations of the Malan family, Simonsig continues to balance heritage with innovation. The estate produces a diverse portfolio of wines known for their consistency, approachability, and strong regional identity.

Sustainability is central to Simonsig’s philosophy. The estate is certified under the Integrated Production of Wine (IPW) program, incorporating solar energy, water conservation systems, and environmentally responsible vineyard practices, including natural pest management.

Today, Simonsig stands as a benchmark Stellenbosch producer—combining family legacy, technical innovation, and sustainable farming to craft wines that reflect the character and quality of South Africa’s leading wine region.
