Ironstone Petite Sirah 2018

Overview

A big, succulent, and rich red wine with a deep, dark purple inky color. Bold aromas of warm berry pie and blueberry are mixed with vanilla and light pepper spice. On the palate, it is full of lush berries mixed with dark chocolate, warm cedar, and vanilla – with a smooth finish and moderate tannins.

Wine Facts

Winemaker Notes
The grapes for this Petite Sirah come from the Kautz family’s Teichert Ranch vineyard in the Sloughouse sub-appellation of the Lodi AVA. These well-drained soils contain large stones throughout – and are ideal for growing world-class grapes. The winery practices sustainable viticultural practices such as crop reduction, leaf removal, organic materials and drip irrigation to improve the quality of the grapes and intensity of flavors. Cover crops, which attract beneficial insects, are also employed, as well as the placement of owl and wood duck boxes around the vineyards and ponds to help preserve the surrounding habitats. After traditional fermentation, the wine is aged four months in new French oak.

Serving Hints

Ironstone’s Petite Sirah is the perfect wine to serve with dishes like veal saltimbocca or braised beef with winter vegetables. Mushroom dishes are also ideal for Petite Sirah.
