Cabernet Sauvignon
Tasting Notes
Deep ruby-red in color. Aromas of blackcurrant, ripe cherry, cassis, cola, eucalyptus, mocha, cocoa powder, and tilled earth lead into a balanced palate. Smooth, integrated mid-palate tannins frame the dark fruit core, finishing with subtle oak-driven notes of cocoa, spice, and toast that lend polish and length to the finish.
Vineyards
The 2023 Geyser Peak Cabernet Sauvignon is a carefully crafted blend of 78% Cabernet Sauvignon and 22% Petite Sirah, with 12% of the Cabernet sourced from the renowned Alexander Valley AVA, known for its rich, expressive fruit. Additionally, 4% of the Petite Sirah comes from the Red Hills in Lake County, contributing depth and structure to the final wine.
Winemaking
The 2023 vintage is a meticulously assembled blend expressing the full range of California Cabernet Sauvignon character through meticulous sourcing and intentional AVA declassification.
Fermentation & Extraction – Grapes were fermented in stainless steel tanks with gentle pump-overs to balance color extraction, preserve fruit purity, and soften tannin structure.
Oak Influence & Elevage – Following fermentation, the wine benefited from approximately six months of oak contact, with a portion of the blend interacting with seasoned French and American oak, balanced between neutral and light toast. This controlled oak influence enhances texture, integrates tannins, and contributes subtle notes of mocha, cocoa, and baking spice, without overwhelming the fruit expression.
Blending Philosophy – The final cuvée brings together distinct components to achieve balance and complexity:
Structure and aromatic lift from Alexander Valley Cabernet Sauvignon
- Depth, color, and backbone from Petite Sirah
- Roundness and fruit generosity from District 11 (Lodi area) and Dunnigan Hills fruit
- Bordeaux-varietal accents (Malbec and Petit Verdot) for polish and layered complexity.
Region: California, USA | 82% California AVA, 18% North Coast AVA (Alexander Valley, Dry Creek Valley, select Napa Valley & Oak Knoll parcels)
