Tasting Notes
The 2021 Leaping Horse Red is a medium bodied wine with a sweet berry profile, such as black cherries and strawberries, as well as red apples. There is an herbal note with juicy, integrated fruit and a chocolate finish.
Vineyards
The Kautz family has been promoting and working with sustainable viticulture for over 35 years. Crop reduction, leaf removal, organic materials and drip irrigation are used throughout the vineyards to improve the intensity of flavors and overall quality of the wines. Cover crops, which attract beneficial insects, are also employed. In addition, owl boxes and wood duck boxes are placed around the vineyards and ponds to help preserve the surrounding habitats.
Winemaking
This wine is aged for five months in new French and American oak.
