Tasting Notes
The color is deep, almost black, hinting at the wine’s intensity. The nose reveals lightly toasted notes of fresh wood and black cherries, reflecting the exceptional maturity of this vintage. On the palate, elegant, supple, and velvety tannins support a burst of ripe, stewed black cherries and blueberries, while aging in new French oak barrels adds a refined woodiness with gentle toasted notes. The superb tautness, a signature of the terroir, promises excellent aging potential of 15 to 20 years, with the wine’s exquisite balance and elegance only deepening over time.
Vineyards
This wine comes from carefully tended vines averaging 70 years old, rooted in limestone and clay soils. Spanning several select plots on the highest part of the vineyard, these vines are planted at a density of approximately 2,227 vines per acre and receive meticulous care through pruning, suckering, bud thinning, and green harvesting. The vineyard is managed sustainably with natural grass cover, fostering a healthy ecosystem that enhances the vines’ expression of terroir.
Winemaking
The vinification process begins with cold soaking and fermentation in oak vats, with careful temperature control, pumping over, and pigeage to enhance extraction. Post-fermentation, micro-oxygenation occurs during maceration, followed by malolactic fermentation. The wine is then aged for 16 months in 100% new barrels, adding depth and complexity to its character.
