This blend of Zinfandel, Merlot and Petite Sirah comes primarily from soils that are sandy loam and well- drained, allowing the wonderful ripeness to come through to the grapes. The Kautz family has been promoting and working with sustainable viticulture for over 35 years. Crop reduction, leaf removal, organic material and drip irrigation are used throughout the vineyards to improve the quality and intensity of flavors. Cover crops, which attract beneficial insects are also employed. IN addition, the placement of owl and wood duck boxes around the vineyards help to preserve the surrounding habitats. This wine is aged four months in New French Oak.
Born from a love of horses, Leaping Horse is aptly named. The Kautz family have been involved in many generations of riders and are passionate about equine friends and partners. Leaping Horse is all about unpretentious and contemporary wine styles.
Ideal with hearty soups, grilled red meats, pasta dishes in marinara sauces, barbequed chicken, or simply on its own. A lovely cheese plate to finish or a rich chocolate dessert pairs nicely as well. .
