Foppiano Vineyards 1896 Red Blend

Overview

This wine offers an aromatic explosion of black fruit, cinnamon, rose petals, dried thyme and warm tar. On the palate, there Aromas of blackberry jam, nutmeg and cinnamon. On the full and structured palate, there are flavors of dark plum, blackberries, blueberries, and a dense minerality (which leads into a softer mid-palate, well- integrated oak, and balanced acidity). The lingering finish tastes pleasantly of plums and mulling spices.

Wine Facts

Winemaker Notes
Located just south of Healdsburg, Foppiano Vineyards sits on 160 acres in the acclaimed Russian River Valley. The Foppiano family has been producing world class fruit on this land since its purchase in 1896, and this wine was crafted to celebrate this long-term legacy. The fruit was sourced from the winery’s Estate, as well as from other select vineyards in California. To ensure the wine is not over-extracted with tannin and unbalanced flavors, and to achieve elegant texture with approachable fruit, the winery uses hand punch-downs and light pump-overs for gentle extraction during fermentation. Each varietal is harvested and fermented individually. The wine was aged in 1-year old French and American oak barrels.

Great on its own, and with summer grilling. It also pairs well with a variety of foods, including short ribs, camembert, dark chocolate, and grilled figs with balsamic reduction.
