Winemaker Notes
I have enjoyed making numerous Roses for my clients, but this is one of the few I have made where the grapes were specifically picked for Rose. The grapes were harvested on September 27th, and were picked early in order to keep the alcohol lower and give the winemaker a better chance of achieving a livelier wine with brighter fruit, which is the style of Rose I enjoy. The Merlot comes from the MacAllister vineyard in Sonoma County, which is the same vineyard as the Eponymous Red Blend and Eponymous Cabernet Franc. This vineyard belies its name as it is one of the highest hillside vineyards in Napa and Sonoma at 1850 feet in elevation. Fermentation was conducted in stainless steel tanks and there was no oak aging.
