Overview

The Frankland Estate Poison Hill Vineyard Riesling is a bright gold color, with a highly-perfumed nose of orange blossom, rose petal and jasmine, complimented by hints of ripe citrus, spice and tangerine notes. The palate is elegant and delicate, with a pronounced citrus edge and complex amalgam of orange peel, spice and quartz-like minerality, complemented by a subtle undertone of finely-textured acidity giving the wine impeccable balance and fruit weight.

Winemaker Notes
A wet growing season growing season was experienced at the Poison Hill vineyard in Frankland River, however vines were harvested in mid-March in ideal condition. The grapes were pressed immediately after handpicking, with the juice left to settle in the tank overnight before being racked and fermentation introduced, at low temperatures, over 12 weeks. The winemaker’s aim is to minimize intervention in order to obtain the purest and finest expression of the pristine fruit to reflect the uniqueness of the Poison Hill vineyard.


Serving Hints
This wine is ideally served chilled and is a perfect accompaniment for a wide range of foods including seafood, shellfish and lightly-seasoned dishes with chicken and other white meats.


Interesting fact:
The unconventional name of this vineyard is a result of it being located on the slopes of a hill where Heartleaf Clover is found. This clover is poisonous to all but indigenous animals and posed a threat to the sheep of early settlers.
