Frankland Estate Olmos Reward 2015

Overview

Olmo’s Reward is a deep crimson-red, with purple hues and an aroma that includes vanilla, plum, currants and cherry. The fresh palate shows bright sweet fruit, red berries, plum and lifted floral notes. The tightly-woven and persistent palate has fine-grained, gravely tannins, slight mocha and savory, earthy notes. A very refined wine with underlying power. An effortlessly elegant wine with the structure and fruit intensity to reward further cellaring.

Wine Facts

Winemaker Notes
All three varieties used in the blend were dry-grown on mature vines in the Isolation Ridge vineyard. The vineyard sits on undulating northern- and eastern- facing slopes on ancient duplex soils of gravel and loam over a clay sub-soil. It is farmed using organic viticultural practices and this is reflected in the depth and concentration of fruit flavors. The vines are trained on a Scott Henry Trellis System and trimmed to allow maximum sunlight penetration of the canopy during the growing season. Each variety was fermented separately and as long and slowly as possible, at temperatures not exceeding 80.6° F, in open fermentation tanks that allowed the cap to be worked by plunging and gently pumping over. The component wines were blended on completion of malolactic fermentation and then aged in French Oak for 15 months. Racking from the barrel allowed for minimal filtration before bottling.

Serving Hints
This red blend is a great accompaniment for roasted meats and hearty game dishes.

Interesting Fact
Olmo’s Reward is named after Dr Harold Olmo, the famed Californian viticulturist, who first identified the potential of the Frankland River region to grown and produce premium wines.
