Frankland Estate Isolation Ridge Shiraz 2011

Overview

Isolation Ridge Shiraz is a bright, deep plum colour, with a complex and concentrated nose expressing soft spicy and ripe plum notes with touches of mocha and a brooding earthiness with subtle floral characteristics. It is a medium weighted Shiraz with a good intensity of flavour with some subtle grainy tannins. Satsuma plum notes present on the nose and carry through to the palate with a vibrant acidity giving direction and freshness to the wine, reflective of its cool climate origins. Characteristics from a warmer 2011 vintage give this wine a drive and intensity expressed through the nice core of plum. Approachable now, it has the structure and finesse to reward long-term cellaring.

Wine Facts

Winemaker Notes
Fruit for this wine was sourced from three different locations in the Isolation Ridge vineyards. The Estate vineyard sits on undulating northern- and eastern-facing slopes on duplex soils of gravel and loam over a clay sub-soil. It is farmed using organic viticulture practices and this is reflected in the depth and concentration of fruit flavors while enhancing the characteristics unique to the Isolation Ridge Vineyard. The fruit was de-stemmed and wine fermented in small open-pot fermenters with traditional, delicate hand plunging with some gentle pump overs to allow for a relatively cool (up to 79° F / 26° C) fermentation. After a short post- fermentation maturation on skins, the wine was pressed into 132 gallon (500 litre), light grained French Oak puncheons and matured for 18 months.
